Over the last ten (10) years it has aquired state-of-the-art computer resources that are integrated in learning, mentoring, teaching, and research. These resources are available through the two laboratories in the department. The laboratories have been categorized according to the service intended through them. One is the undergraduate instruction and learning laboratory which is called the Personal Computer Laboratory.
This is called PC Lab since all the computers that it hosts are Personal Computers. It has twenty (20) Gateway 2000 Pentium PC's ( 90 to 200 MHz). These PCs are O2S complete with features like multimedia development kits and network connectivity. They are loaded with scientific packages and programming software.Various wordprocessing, spreadsheets, graphics, and database software products are also loaded on these PCs. This lab is used for undergraduate instruction and learning. This lab serves as an ideal choice for several workshops held on campus.
The High Performance Computing Laboratory is the center of powerful computing. It is equipped with the high performing Silicon Graphics machines and Gateway2000 computers. There are: (a) one (1) Origin2000 server, (b) seven (7) O2S workstations, and (c) nine (9) Gateway 2000 PCs. All the computers are networked and connected to the Web.
The Origin 2000 server tackles the needs of demanding computations. It has four (4) processors with up to 1 million mega flops per second of computing power. It is fully loaded with parallel compilers, database, visualization and Web development software.
